This is indeed a treasure !!!!!   Published in 1965, this 32 page booklet was created specifically for the first CHOW OF THE YEAR show in England, by long time breeder E. A. Burrows (PENHOW smooth chows) . The author who was well acquainted with the oldest and most prestigious chow kennels  goes into great detail, highlighting  the very earliest history of Chows as they were imported from China into England, the breedings, show records and judges critiques!!  I couldn’t stop reading… it was so interesting hearing what judges opinions of the chows were back then.

This outstanding publication was scanned and sent to me by Chris Clucas in England, one of the breed’s foremost chow history heroines.  We were having a messenger chat about English chow registrations when I asked Chris if she had heard of this publication.  Of course she had an original copy and  offered to share with the ChowTales Archive.  Thank you  once again Chris, for generously paying forward more of your vast collection of historic chow artifacts for others to benefit from.

I do my best to be as accurate as possible in my research, however many times written history finds a way to "morph" over time. I love your comments and appreciate all feedback, additions and corrections my readers have to offer to help make this a well rounded and accurate archive.
