This very old documentation of the earliest imports of Chows from China was written by the well-known expert on Foreign dogs of the Day Mr. W.K. Taunton.  Taunton owned the lovely “Chinese Puzzle” pictured below which was considered the first “chow” to be shown in England, however, in retrospect she was most likely another one of Southern China’s ancient  black tongued breeds
