1917 Mrs William Baer of Moosilauke Kennels with 4 of her Chows

What a rarity this 1917 Newspaper photo is, featuring Mrs William Baer (wife of Dr William Baer of Johns Hopkins Hospital fame) and her string of 4 lovely chows.  The Moosilauke Kennel is one of the oldest American chow kennels and was comprised of many top European imports.  In fact, Mrs Baer was the woman who brought the $10,000.00 Chow, Ch. Choonam Brilliantine by ocean liner from England, to deliver him to Mrs Hoover of the Manchoover Kennel

In the advertisement below are pictured some of the Moosilauke chows.  I’m pretty certain the black dog in the above photo is Ch Pao Yun…One of her top winning males and stud dogs.

Below is another rare news clipping of Mrs. Baer and her chows, Circa early 1920s

I do my best to be as accurate as possible in my research, however many times written history finds a way to "morph" over time. I love your comments and appreciate all feedback, additions and corrections my readers have to offer to help make this a well rounded and accurate archive.
