1909 – Two Rare Articles and Photos-The Chows of Sandringham

King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra  we true devotees to the dog sport, housing dozens of popular and rare breeds in their kennels at Sandringham and attending dog shows with their Royal canines.  How fortunate I was to recently purchase 2 rare articles from England, each featuring a different chow from their Royal kennels.

The first photo article, (both dating 1909), highlights the Queens’ Chow Chow named “Sandringham Loo Choo, who was a winner of 3 firsts and Challenge prizes. (Seen above and in the article directly below)  Both publications also show photos of the spacious kennels, more breeds and the feeding area .

The second publication shows a lovely chow in the middle of the collage with the text to correspond  – Written below the Illustrations –  5.Chum, a Chow for whom a special messenger was sent to China.

And of course there was the lovely chow, “Plumpie”, pictured at the bottom of this post owned by Queen Alexandra.  There is much more written about Plumpie at the link below.

I do my best to be as accurate as possible in my research, however many times written history finds a way to "morph" over time. I love your comments and appreciate all feedback, additions and corrections my readers have to offer to help make this a well rounded and accurate archive.
