1914 MR AND MRS AXTELL WITH A CAR FULL OF SHOW CHOWS

Mrs and Mrs S.B. Axtell with their prize winning chows at the Sheepshead Bay Dog Show The New York Times 1914

You could have knocked me over with a feather when I found this very rare 1914 photo of Mr. And Mrs. Axtell with a car FULL of chows. I was even more blown away at how much detail I was able to reveal and how many chows there actually were in that car through careful adjustments to contrast and exposure. It’s not perfect but what a special image to be saved from sure extinction in another decade or less.

Below is another clipping from the same time frame of Mrs. Axtell with a string of her chows.  These are both dated 1914 and Mrs Axtell is wearing the same outfit so my guess is both photos may have been taken at the same show circuit.

I do my best to be as accurate as possible in my research, however many times written history finds a way to "morph" over time. I love your comments and appreciate all feedback, additions and corrections my readers have to offer to help make this a well rounded and accurate archive.
