There are so many sculptures I see from the Han Dynasty that resemble the chow in the upright ears and tail over the back, but most show a distinctly different type in body and coat much like the Chinese Chongqing dog .
However this little sculpture below I discovered online shows the appearance of longer hair on the tail and britches and around the neck …more like the early chows imported into England and America from China. It is such a close likeness that I thought it should be here in the archive to study further.

This is the question I was wondering Siutin. I thought there must be chow in the Chongqing dogs. Very interesting that some have the half black tongue!! I was doing Chinese dog research to send to you when I found this photo of the sculpture.

There are still lots of antique Chow Chow in the Guangdong province and Guangxi province in China, they still look exactly like the early chows imported into England and America. Matter fact, I’m keeping one antique Chow myself. You can contact me if you are interested in antique Chow.
