1893 TIME CAPSULE – CH. BLUE BLOOD

BLUE BLOOD AND PERIDOT II

PICTURED ARE CH. BLUE BLOOD (left) WITH HIS SIRE PERIDOT II (right).

Both dogs were among the earliest of chows bred outside of China and extremely important to both European and American Chow history.  Chances are…a bit of “Blue Blood” could be coursing through your own chows veins.

Hello, I have a Blue Chow Chow whom will be five years old tomorrow, May 15. I would love to learn of his lineage. Could you recommend a reputable company for DNA testing?
    Thank you,
    Susan Bird

Hi Susan!, Great to hear from you. Happy B’Day to your Chow tomorrow!! So the scoop on DNA tests are they can’t tell you any more about your dog’s lineage other than prove that he is purebred (or not). If you have AKC papers on him most likely his lineage is 100% chow.

If your dog is a mix breed it can tell you what breeds make up your dog. In some breeds DNA can pinpoint potential breed specific health issues to look for.

If you are looking mostly to find out his pedigree (parents, grandparents etc…the family tree) if you have an AKC registration number you can purchase a 3-10 generation pedigree at the AKC.com website.

    I hope this helps some.
    Chow for Now, Sandra
