Every so often I find an elusive book such as this which has a chapter on chows, and I can’t help but add it to the collection – Puppy Dogs Tales by Frances Kent ca 1922. The icing on the cake is a glued down image of chow puppies is also on the cover! This one has a bit of a back story as the chow puppies pictured are from the famous Bainbridge Kennel of Mr. Walsh….legacy breeder and respected chow judge of the 1920’s.
Below the book plates is a photo of Mr. Walsh pictured with other top breeders of the day , following his judging assignment. Mr and Mrs Walsh had plans to build a 500 chow Kennel in 1920. This first bookplate shows a photo of the grandkids of the puppy “Brown Beauty”, in the story below called “The Land of the Chow”
