The photo on the magazine cover which I discovered in one of my old Dog News magazines was a really special find, as I had been searching for YEARS for any image of “Beautiful” to add to the archives. Recently I was paging through yet another edition of Dog News from 1940 and here was Ho Han Beautiful in all her glory as a youngster winning points at the New England Chow Club Specialty Show. What a precious photo this is!!! I’m still searching for newspaper or magazine reports of the actual National Specialty which I will add as I find them.
The United States entered World War II on December 7, 1941 and all the country’s attention was focused on defense, so news reports of a dog show was certainly not a priority as had been in the past. There is no record of a Chow Club of America National Specialty in 1942….. (the following year after “Beautiful” won), most likely because of the war as well.
