Since the chow became fashionable as a show dog and companion in the late 1880’s-1920’s, women dominated the scene as the top breeders, caretakers and exhibitors of chows. This was very unusual for the times and a unique chapter in the history of women’s rights . Photos of men with chows are not as common with most dating after the 1920’s
The photos in this album are a combination of images from my personal collection,fellow chow enthusiasts, and public archives. Many were blurry or extremely faded so have needed restoration. I will be posting many more in this album as I revive each back to their former glory !
