Circa 1930s Cleanthe Carr found artwork

Circa 1930’s CLEANTHE CARR artwork

This unique 8×10 original photo was sent to me by Mary Wuest by way of Janet Allen in a large packet of incredible vintage to antique show photos, gifted by them to ChowTales.

On close inspection, it turns out this is a photo of an original ARTWORK, signed “Cleanthe” at the bottom corner, which I have never seen before, by The famous illustrator CLEANTHE CARR, known for staging a wedding for two of these chows pictured in the artwork.

What an incredibe addition to the story about Cleanthe’s art and chows which I wrote on ChowTales years ago. Link to story is below. The icing on the cake was when I read on the back of the photo that these are Wagstaff chows of the famous Ledgelands kennels. This is the first I have seen who the breeder was. Another puzzle piece was found!

Thank you so very much Mary and Janet for sharing your stash of photos. I have a lot of work ahead of me to get them all scanned in and am excited to start. This was a great beginning!!

I do my best to be as accurate as possible in my research, however many times written history finds a way to "morph" over time. I love your comments and appreciate all feedback, additions and corrections my readers have to offer to help make this a well rounded and accurate archive.

I am a 59 yo physician who lived with and cared for Cleanthe Carr during the last 7 years of her life. I am probably the last living person who knew her and could provide you with a treasure trove of additional original works and information which i have. Let me know if you are interested.
