I promise this to be ANYTHING but a boring history lesson. ENJOY!

Over 8 months of production time in the making and decades of collecting data, original images and ephemera………This video finally came to fruition! As creator and curator of the ChowTales History Archive I was asked to do a Chow history Seminar for the International Chow Chow Congress event in October of 2025 and it was a great honor and privildge…. and gave me to nudge to organize my mounds of Chow ephemera and history into an easy to view and fun way to follow the progression of the foundation years in our beloved breed.

ABOUT SANDRA MILLER: My name is Sandra Miller, and I live in Portland, Oregon, USA. I began showing dogs at age ten with Poodles, but it was in 1985 that I found my heart breed—the Chow Chow. Under the “Chinarose Chows” prefix, my husband Steve and I bred and exhibited numerous champions and top producers over the years.

Now retired from breeding and showing, I’ve turned my focus to preserving the breed’s legacy. In 2006, I founded The ChowTales History Archive, a curated collection of pre-1950s images, articles, and ephemera—primarily from the U.S. and England—documenting the Chow’s rich cultural and historical significance. Steve handles the technical side, while I now enjoy my archive work and art through Sandra Miller Studio, where Chows remain a central theme. We share our days with Ihana, our Finnish Lapphund, who makes sure there is never a dull moment in Ihanaland.

This video explores the Chow’s introduction to England and America, with a focus on legacy breeders, influential bloodlines, standout dogs, and the cultural trends this distinctive breed helped inspire.

I do my best to be as accurate as possible in my research, however many times written history finds a way to "morph" over time. I love your comments and appreciate all feedback, additions and corrections my readers have to offer to help make this a well rounded and accurate archive.
