Pre-1900’s Chow photography…details revealed during restoration

PRE I900'S PHOTOS BLOG POST

Oh how I adore any sepia photos for their warm diffused hues and antique charm.   I treasure each and every one I have in my collection and these 3 are pretty darned special in my opinion!  Each is a studio portrait  photo (not a postcard) and in excellent  condition but with a lot of fading .

Upon closer inspection with a high powered magnifying glass I could see there was an incredible amount of detail in the photography.    I set out to not necessarily change the photos to make them look “new” , but to first convert them to black and white, then carefully work with contrast, brightness sharpness etc in Photoshop to bring these century old Chows back to life.   In my upcoming CHOWTALES book, I want to incorporate both versions of my most spectacular images  so both the “age” and “details” can be enjoyed, studied and appreciated.
