CIRCA 1905 Antique pedigree records album from England -Gift to the archive from Pat Robb of Mi Tu Chows

Circa 1905 – 1930s. Below you will find  a TREASURE trove of over 50 well preserved antique chow pedigrees from England , generously gifted to the Chowtales archive by Pat Robb.  The pedigrees are in the order they appear in the album documenting one of our breed’s earliest breeding programs ,  based on the foundation of Chinese stock

The pedigree album was given to Pat by a long time Canadian chowist Joey Nattrass (originally from England)  who had gotten them from a breder in England. I couldn’t hold back the tears when I started reading names like Ch. Shylock and Ch. Wiggles…and Chow VIII (model for the very first chow standard) in the first generations of the lineage . Many of the dogs listed were Chinese imports ( eg.”Golden Dog”)

I have photographed all of these pedigrees, some complete with photos, litter growth charts and original signed challenge certificates!!!!! The pedigrees are brittle and large so scanning isn’t an option. I am adding notes and importnt info about each dog as I find time.

A heartfelt THANK YOU Pat for entrusting me with these pedigrees and all the magazines etc you sent. I’ll post each item as they are archived. The originals have been put into museum quality archival storage

CLICK HERE to read an amazing letter from E.A. Burrows of the famous English smooth chow kennel “Penhow”,  written to Mrs. Lucas who assembled the  antique pedigree book  The 4 page letter below is filled with both additions and corrections to these rare handwritten pedigrees.  The letter was found folded in the pedigree album.
