1922 CHOW NATIONAL WINNER- BLUE BOY- Very first blue chow to win this honor

This is one of those dog show tales that gives me goosebumps! I can recall only too well watching many a newcomer to dog shows over my past 40 years in the sport, as they nervously exhibit their beautiful companion for the first time……..and literally WIPE UP the competition to win highest honors of the day. A great chow is a great chow no matter it’s “social status”, breeding…… or color. The quote below from the New York Times article conveys a real sense of this amazing day for Blue Boy’s owner, Mrs. Evans.

“Blue Boy is a big, upstanding specimen of the breed, with great bone and substance, a lovely eye and a magnificent blue coat. It was the first time he was ever placed on a show bench. He is two and a half years old, and was presented to Mrs. Evans as a six months puppy.

Mrs Evans knew that she had a magnificent looking dog, but never had any idea of showing him until Dr. Henry Jarrett, one of the oldest and best judges of the chow in this country (and first U.S. chow exhibitor) advised her to show him. So she came on to the show with her pet and came away yesterday afternoon with all the honors it was possible to win at the specialty show of the breed”
